Alex Avrutin, managing director of AW/Systems, LLC makes a statement regarding the ASPNETIcons.com website
11/10/2006

The recent launch of the AW/Systems’ free web graphic site, www.ASPNETIcons.com, has created a great deal of 'buzz' in on-line communities (for example: www.digg.com), numerous blogs and discussion forums. The most extensively discussed aspect has been the restriction of the use of our graphics to ASP.NET®, ASP® and Mono applications. The majority of postings alluded to disrespect by AW/Systems for other web application development platforms such as PHP and ColdFusion® and their communities. I feel the need to explain this restriction to the entire web development community.

The icon site is our “thanks” to the ASP.NET community that has consistently provided us with enormous help and support with our work. We have no anger toward PHP or any other application programming platform. We have high respect for PHP and the PHP community, as well as all other web application platforms and their communities. We do not hold disrespect for the open source initiative either, (there are numerous open source projects in the ASP.NET world). Our intention was only to give the ASP.NET community special appreciation. Why have none of the numerous PHP fans ever designed and contributed PHP-specific graphics, or other resources, to show their appreciation for the PHP world?
